Maris Putnins is born in 1950. Studied at Latvian Academy of Fine Arts. In 1973 graduated from Riga Conservatoire, the department of Puppet Theatre Actors.

Since 1986 works as artist and scriptwriter at Riga Puppet film Studio.
Since 1996 he is also the producer of Film Studio “AB” and Film Studio “ABOOM”.
